Tourism Cisternino

Tourism in Cisternino Italy centres around the quaint old quarter and the striking and serene Valley of Itria in which it resides. Travellers arrive from all over Italy with the intention of holidaying in their own country homes or one of the many and excellent hotels and rentals in town or country.

The historical centre is divided by the local tourist agency into 5L'Isule areas, "U Pandene" (The Marsh),  "Li Siggnuredde o Scheledd" (the young ladies or small steps), "Bere Vecchje" (the old suburb), "L'Isule" (the island) and "U Burie" (the suburb). They are not entirely obvious to a visitor and I would suggest not necessary to study to enjoy your stay, but if you wish to see a plan, there is one by each of the gateways.

Olive GroveDrive out of the town in any direction and you will find yourself in the green and fascinating country of rolling tree covered hills of olives and pines, with fields of hay, small vineyards and sheep grazing in lush fields. the forests and impossibly narrow lanes are a magnet for walkers and cyclists enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.

The coast being a short drive away has much visited towns and fishing villages where you can enjoy excellent beaches and vistas, one of the favourites is Polignano a Mare with its stunning setting, which is about 25 miles away up the coast, roughly 45 minutes drive.

Ten miles west of Cisternino is another "must see" the world renowned town of Alberobello with its streets of trulli aside a hill as if constructed for a film set.

The next town along the Valle d'Itria, 6 miles (twenty mins drive) to the south-west is the baroque town of Martina Franca, another piece of history waiting to be visited.

In the opposite direction, just 9 miles and 20 minutes away is the glorious fortified hill town of Ostuni, gleaming white on the horizon from miles around.

North towards the coast just 10 miles away, about half an hour by car, is Fasano City with nearby village of caves and Roman excavations.

One of the most popular holiday resorts on this stretch of coast is the town of Monopoli which comes complete with 500 year old castle.
